Poster Research: I

Before I begin making a poster to accompany both my music video and album cover, I decided to look at posters by similar genres, this poster is actually one advertising a documentary showing Iron Maiden's 2008 Somewhere back in Time world tour. The Poster features an airplane, a reference to the tour, Iron Maiden's mascot, Eddie is seen tearing up the plane as it flies, the plane has 'Iron Maiden' written on the side, this is a reference to how when the band lands it will bring destruction with it, this is a common theme in heavy metal music, the genre sees itself as a musical revolution. The Image is of main importance, however as both the band's name appears twice, and the bands mascot are present, there is a clear sense of identification of this poster with Iron Maiden, fans will however be familiar with the image, and know who it is. People not familiar with the bands artwork will be shocked and intrigued by the image, which will grab the attention of passers by, this is the main point of a poster.

Mise-En-Scene

I have chosen the clothing for the actors to wear in the film, it was chosen by me to represent a change in attitude and personality within the characters.

The Primary character, who will begin the video at the location, will begin the video wearing dark colours, this is to convey grieving within the person, and to portray he characrer as feeling melanholy.
This will be contrasted by the secondary Character, who will be making their way towards the first, they will be wearing light colours, conveying a sense "heaven" and spirituality, this will remain throughout the video, being the constant around everchanging locations and people as the person moves through the town to get to the location.

Therefore for me, clothing is important as it will embody the characters and who they represent in my spooky/spiritual theme.

Charactersistics of my Genre

Its important that in my music video i include conventionalities within my chosen genre of music, so that it can be identified as from within that genre. Characterstics of the Heavy Rock genre is dark colours and little mise-en-scene, both locations and clothes can vary greatly.

Depending on preference i can utilize a wide variety of mise-en-scene and still be relative to the rock genre, such as a fast paced city scene, or even in the woods. Due to my geographical location and ease of filming it will probably be he latter. A Conventionality within Heavy Rock is that usually the band will take part within the video, however this will be notably absent from my video, and will feature completley non iagetic sound. As Heavy rock can span a whole spectrum of music, it is important for me to create a video which complements the video, for example, metal video's can be heavily influenced by medieval charactersistics, and accompanying themes such as witchcraft, and the church is also heavily present, just as much i could feature a music video heavily influenced on modern times, if it reflects more modern interpretations of rock, such as a band playing atop a skyscraper in the midst of a large metropolis.

It is also important to feature unconventionalities within my music video, as this will both differ my music video from ones of the same genre, and allow me to explore boundaries outside of the genre, this is something i would much like to incorporate within my music video.
